STATEMENT OF FAITH

What We Believe

At Mountain Home Bible Baptist Church, we hold firmly to the truths of God's Word. Our beliefs are not mere traditions, but convictions rooted in Scripture.

We invite you to explore our statement of faith and discover the biblical foundations that guide our church family.

The Holy Scriptures

We believe the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments to be the verbally and plenary inspired Word of God. The Scriptures are inerrant, infallible, and God-breathed, serving as final authority for faith and doctrine.

We designate the King James Version as our official translation and believe in scriptural preservation. God's word endures eternally and cannot fail. The Holy Spirit enabled biblical writers to maintain complete accuracy despite their individual personalities and writing styles.

The Godhead

We believe in one Triune God, eternally existing in three co-equal persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—sharing identical attributes and perfections.

God exists as Spirit, invisible and omnipresent. God is singular in being yet displays three distinct personalities with equal essence. Each member of the Trinity is distinctly God.

The Person and Work of Christ

Christ is the eternal Son of God who became human without ceasing divinity. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary.

His redemptive work occurred through substitutionary death on the cross, with justification assured through His literal physical resurrection. Christ ascended to heaven and currently serves as High Priest, Intercessor, and Advocate.

The Person and Work of the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity who convicts the world of sin and serves as the supernatural agent of regeneration. He indwells believers, provides divine instruction in Scripture, and sovereignly distributes spiritual gifts throughout the church.

We teach that speaking in tongues and the gift of healing were temporary signs to Israel to fulfill Old Testament prophecy, not normative signs of Spirit-filling.

The Total Depravity of Man

Humanity was created in God's image but fell through Adam's sin, inheriting a sinful nature and becoming alienated from God.

Individuals are utterly unable to remedy their lost condition through personal effort.

Salvation

Salvation is God's gift received through faith in Christ's redemptive blood sacrifice on Calvary for sin forgiveness.

All believers, once saved, are kept by God's power and are thus secure in Christ forever. Believers may rejoice in salvation assurance while avoiding the misuse of Christian liberty.

The Church

The local church comprises exclusively born-again believers, functioning as Christ's body and bride. We affirm local church autonomy free from external authority.

Water baptism and the Lord's Supper serve as scriptural ordinances, with baptism conducted under local church authority and communion restricted to church members.

Separation

All born again believers should live in such a manner as not to bring reproach upon their Savior and Lord.

We believe in maintaining separation from religious apostasy, worldly practices, and sinful associations.

The Second Advent of Christ

We expect the personal, imminent return of Christ to rapture believers before the seven-year tribulation.

After tribulation, Christ returns visibly with saints to establish His earthly kingdom promised to Israel.

The Eternal State

All humans face bodily resurrection and judgment. The redeemed's souls are present with the Lord at death.

The unredeemed face everlasting conscious punishment in the Lake of Fire, not annihilation.

Creation

God created the heavens and earth in six literal days as recorded in Genesis.

We reject evolution, Gap Theory, Day-Age Theory, and Theistic Evolution as unscriptural.

Civil Government

God ordained three sovereign institutions: Home, Church, and State.

All authority answers to God and His Word, with each institution possessing specific biblical responsibilities that don't infringe upon others.

Human Sexuality and Marriage

Intimate sexual activity belongs exclusively within heterosexual marriage between one man and one woman.

God hates divorce and intends for a man and a woman to be married until the death of a spouse. Divorce and remarriage constitutes adultery except for fornication or desertion grounds.

Sanctity of Life

Human life begins at conception and the unborn child is a living human being created in the image of God.

We oppose abortion under all circumstances, viewing it as the taking of innocent human life.

Missions

Churches must fulfill the Great Commission, proclaiming the Gospel to all nations and ethnic groups for salvation belief.

We are committed to supporting missionaries and spreading the Gospel both locally and around the world.

Giving

Christians must financially support their local church as faithful stewards of what God has entrusted to them.

We establish tithing as the biblical basis for giving, alongside sacrificial offerings for church support, community relief, and Gospel advancement.

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.
